 caramel apple pie, dessert

Hello friend! Happy Thanksgiving!

Here at The Warming House we’ve been making homemade pies!

Here’s one of the pies we made today:

Caramel Apple Pie

My daughter and I have enjoyed baking Caramel Apple Pie for our Thanksgiving meal for more years than I can count. Whenever I come across this recipe, I think of her.

Nothing says “home” quite like the mouth-watering scents of a favorite pie baking in the oven. The smells and flavors have a way of stocking the memory banks of each member of your family.

They’ll always remember when Momma baked apple pie.

For this recipe, you’ll need a pastry crust for a deep-dish pie. You can find great tasting pie crusts ready-made at your local grocery store. Pillsbury makes a good refrigerated version that come two to a package . . . or a frozen version.

While the store-bought versions are great, nothing beats homemade. I’ve tried several pie crust recipes and have found this one to be the very best. You can find it over at The Pioneer Woman

There's nothing quite like a homemade pie. One bite of Caramel Apple Pie with its crunchy topping and caramel drizzle will warm your heart and flood your tastebuds with the flavors and comforts of Fall.

Ingredients

Pie Crust Shell

  • 1 deep dish pie shell

Pie Filling

  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 6 cups apples (peeled, thinly sliced)
  • 1/2 cup pecans (chopped)
  • 1/3 cup caramel ice-cream topping

Crumb Topping

  • 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1/2 cup butter (softened)

Directions

Pie Crust Shell
Prepare pie crust dough (or use store-bought). Line pie plate with pie crust dough.
Pie Filling
Stir flour, sugar, cinnamon, and salt together in mixing bowl.
Add apple slices to the flour mixture. Toss to coat.
Nestle those sweet apple slices in the pie shell.
Sprinkle crumb topping over the apple slices.
Set pie on a cookie sheet to prevent juices from dripping onto the base of your oven. You'll thank me later!
Cover edges of crust with foil or with a pie crust shield.
Bake in a preheated 375 degree oven for 25 minutes. Remove foil or pie crust shield and bake for another 25-30 minutes.
Remove from oven breathing in the delectable scents of baked apples and cinnamon. Scatter chopped pecans over pie then drizzle caramel on top.
Serve with vanilla ice cream or fresh whipped cream. Enjoy!
Crumb Topping
Stir together brown sugar, flour, and rolled oats.
Cut in 1/2 cup softened butter. Topping should look like coarse crumbs.

Tip

In my pie photo we used chopped pecans, but I would highly recommend using pecan chips instead. Larger pieces of pecan tend to overwhelm the apple flavor.

Today – as always – we’re giving thanks to God. Whether in happy times or difficult times, he is good. His love fills us. His strength carries us forward. His character astounds us.

“Enter his gate with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good and his love endures forever, his faithfulness continues through all generations.” Psalm 100:4-5

As my husband says, “All we have and all we are is a gift from God.” So true.

“Give thanks to the Lord and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done.” Psalm 105:1

Wishing you, your family, and friends a wonderful day filled with love, thankfulness, and a sense of God’s greatness.

What is your family’s favorite pie?

Lisa~
